Buying Trainee
Buying Trainee
Wheat is one of the leading Scandinavian fashion lifestyle brands for children. We are passionate about creating clothing, footwear and accessories that combine timeless design, comfort, and responsible production.
For more than 25 years, we have designed products with great care and attention to detail. Our collections build on a long-standing Danish design tradition, where our most important signatures are high quality and longevity.
We are committed to doing business responsibly — balancing people, planet and profit — and continuously working to reduce our environmental footprint while creating products made to last.
Today, Wheat is powered by an international team of 50+ colleagues with headquarters in our office in Gentofte (Greater Copenhagen), and local offices or showrooms in Munich, Hamburg, Oslo and London.
We believe that diversity of perspectives strengthens creativity, innovation and decision-making — and we strive to build a workplace where everyone feels respected, included and able to contribute.
About the role
Have you recently graduated and are you ready to learn buying and product development from the ground up at an international children’s wear brand? We are looking for an analytical and curious trainee to join our Buying & Supply Chain team on a two-year traineeship. We imagine that you come from a programme at EK – Copenhagen Business Academy – or similar.
You will be based at our Head Office in Gentofte, report to our Chief Supply Chain Officer and work closely with Design, Sales and Supply Chain. You will be an active part of the buying team and help build our collections – from planning, costing and negotiation to orders and delivery.
You will have real responsibility from the start, but you will not be on your own. The traineeship is a learning programme where you work on real decisions for our collections with guidance and feedback from experienced colleagues – and your responsibilities grow as your skills do.
Your two-year traineeship
The traineeship bridges the gap between your education and a career in buying. Over two years, you will put what you learned in your studies into practice and gain a solid understanding of the full value chain – from first sketch to finished collection in the hands of our customers.
-
In the first part of the programme, you will get to know our business, processes and seasonal calendar, and take part in the entire buying process – from collection planning and costing to order placement and follow-up.
-
As you progress, you will take ownership of a product group or selected suppliers. You will lead the dialogue on prices, quality and lead times, and contribute to decisions on assortment and buying quantities.
-
Along the way, you will work with our requirements for responsible production, certifications and product safety – and see how they shape our choice of suppliers and materials.
We follow your development closely throughout the programme with regular check-ins, so you know what you have learned and what comes next.
What you will work with
1. Planning & analysis
-
Learn to analyse sales and sell-through data and use it to plan collections, assortment and buying quantities.
-
Prepare costings and assess prices, margins and costs together with the team.
-
Follow the season’s budget and key figures, and point out deviations and opportunities.
2. Suppliers & negotiation
-
Maintain ongoing dialogue with our suppliers on prices, quality, order confirmations and lead times.
-
Take part in price negotiations and help assess and develop our supplier base.
-
Work with certificates, test reports and other documentation as part of our work on responsible production and product safety.
3. Collection & orders
-
Be involved from collection meetings to finished order, working closely with Design and Sales on assortment and priorities.
-
Place and manage purchase orders, making sure quantities, prices and data are correct in our systems.
-
Manage samples and the seasonal timeline, and make sure deadlines are met across teams.
About you
You are curious about the business behind the products and enjoy combining numbers, products and people. You take ownership, keep track of the details without losing the big picture, and want to have a say in what ends up in the collection. We imagine that you:
-
Have recently graduated – or will soon – from a relevant higher education programme, e.g. Design Technology (ideally with a specialisation in Fashion Management), a Bachelor in Design & Business, or a Bachelor in International Sales & Marketing from EK or similar.
-
Are analytical and confident with numbers, Excel and costings.
-
Work in a structured way and take ownership of your tasks from start to finish.
-
Communicate clearly and confidently in English, both written and spoken. Danish is a plus, but not a requirement.
-
Enjoy negotiating and thrive in contact with suppliers and colleagues across many countries.
-
Take initiative and can prioritise between several tasks and deadlines at once.
-
Are interested in products, fashion and responsible production.
Experience from an internship or student job in buying, fashion or lifestyle is a plus, but not a requirement. We value your motivation, curiosity and willingness to learn.
What we offer
-
A two-year traineeship with real responsibility in buying and product development at a growing international brand
-
Guidance and feedback from experienced colleagues who are happy to share their knowledge
-
Increasing responsibility and influence as your skills develop
-
Insight into the full value chain – from design and sourcing to sales and delivery
-
A warm and collaborative work environment where well-being, trust and professional development are priorities
-
Salary and employment terms that reflect a traineeship position
