Junior Buyer
Junior Buyer
Wheat is one of the leading Scandinavian fashion lifestyle brands for children. We are passionate about creating clothing, footwear and accessories that combine timeless design, comfort, and responsible production.
For more than 25 years, we have designed products with great care and attention to detail. Our collections build on a long-standing Danish design tradition, where our most important signatures are high quality and longevity.
We are committed to doing business responsibly — balancing people, planet and profit — and continuously working to reduce our environmental footprint while creating products made to last.
Today, Wheat is powered by an international team of 50+ colleagues with headquarters in our office in Gentofte (Greater Copenhagen), and local offices or showrooms in Munich, Hamburg, Oslo and London.
We believe that diversity of perspectives strengthens creativity, innovation and decision-making — and we strive to build a workplace where everyone feels respected, included and able to contribute.
About the role
Do you have your first years of experience in buying, merchandising or sourcing – and are you ready to take ownership of your own product area at an international children’s wear brand? We are looking for an analytical and commercially minded Junior Buyer to join our Buying & Supply Chain team.
You will be based at our Head Office in Gentofte, report to our Chief Supply Chain Officer and work closely with Design, Sales, Logistics and ESG. You will be responsible for a defined product group and its suppliers, and play an active part in building our collections – from planning, costing and negotiation to orders and delivery.
This is a role with real ownership. You will be accountable for the figures and deadlines in your product area, while having experienced colleagues around you to spar with – and room to grow towards a Buyer role as your responsibilities expand.
Your responsibilities
As Junior Buyer, you will own a product group and a selected part of our supplier base. This means that you:
-
Are responsible for your product group’s buying budget, target margins and buying quantities – and for getting the right products delivered on time and to the agreed quality.
-
Lead the day-to-day dialogue and price negotiations with your suppliers, and follow up on their performance on quality, delivery precision and compliance.
-
Represent the buying team in collection meetings and contribute data-driven recommendations on assortment, depth and pricing.
-
Make sure your products meet our requirements for responsible production, certifications and product safety.
Your responsibilities will grow with your experience – for example with additional product groups, new suppliers or cross-functional projects in Supply Chain.
What you will work with
Suppliers & negotiation
-
Negotiate prices, terms, MOQs and lead times with your suppliers, and prepare each negotiation with clear data and targets.
-
Follow up on supplier performance – delivery precision, quality and responsiveness – and handle claims and corrective actions.
-
Help develop our supplier base, including evaluating new suppliers and materials together with the team.
-
Make sure certificates (e.g. GOTS and GRS), test reports and product safety documentation are in place for your products.
Collection & orders
-
Take part in collection meetings from line planning to final range, working closely with Design and Sales on assortment and priorities.
-
Place and manage purchase orders, making sure quantities, prices and master data are correct in our systems.
-
Follow your orders through production and shipment in close cooperation with Logistics, and react quickly to delays or changes.
-
Drive the sample flow and seasonal timeline for your product group, and make sure deadlines are met across teams.
About you
You are commercially minded and enjoy combining numbers, products and people. You take ownership of your area, keep track of the details without losing the big picture, and want a real say in what ends up in the collection. We imagine that you:
-
Have 1–3 years of experience in buying, merchandising, sourcing or product development – ideally within fashion, footwear or lifestyle.
-
Hold a relevant education, e.g. Design Technology (Fashion Management), a Bachelor in Design & Business, a Bachelor in International Sales & Marketing, or similar.
-
Are analytical and confident with numbers, Excel, costings and margin calculations. Experience with an ERP or PLM system is a plus.
-
Have hands-on experience with supplier dialogue and are comfortable leading price negotiations.
-
Work in a structured way and take responsibility for your results from start to finish.
-
Communicate clearly and confidently in English, both written and spoken. Danish is a plus, but not a requirement.
-
Can prioritise between several tasks and deadlines at once, and keep a cool head when plans change.
-
Are interested in products, fashion and responsible production – knowledge of certifications or product safety requirements is a plus.
-
We care more about your drive, commercial sense and willingness to learn than about ticking every box.
What we offer
-
Real ownership of a product group and its suppliers at a growing international brand
-
A clear path towards a Buyer role as your responsibilities and results develop
-
Sparring and support from experienced colleagues in Buying & Supply Chain
-
Insight into the full value chain – from design and sourcing to sales and delivery
-
A warm and collaborative work environment where well-being, trust and professional development are priorities
-
Competitive salary and employment terms that match the role and your experience
