Update on our bio-fabric project
Update on our bio-based thermo wear project
Since November 2024, we’ve been working closely with Pond Biomaterials and our thermo manufacturer to explore a plant-based alternative to recycled nylon/polyester: Pond Cycle, a bio-based fabric that might be able to replace recycled synthetics on our thermo wear in the future.
With funding from Food & Bio Cluster Denmark and the European Union, we’ve been running a series of tests to see if this material can live up to Wheat’s standards for quality, durability – and playfulness.
So far, we’ve:
🧶 Tested the yarn to ensure it can be knitted as intended
🎨 Tested the coloring to make sure our signature Wheat prints stay sharp and beautiful
🔗 Tested the “supersonic” bonding – the critical assembly of fabric layers and padding. They need to hold!
✅ Successfully tested Pond Cycle for use in our care labels
Right now, a fabric sample is with our local test partner VIA University College, where it’s undergoing tests for colorfastness, pilling, tearing strength, and normal wear.
We can't wait to receive the results in the coming months. If successful, this could be a major step forward in creating bio-based outerwear for children –Stay tuned!
